Its been a long time since last post!

Many years past since last post,
lot of equipment thank got past from my shack.Ts 590, Yaesu ft-5k (both sold) and latest sunsdr2 pro and flex 6600.The ultrabeam updated to VL2.3 and RX loop to four crossed loops.
More equipment less time on radio....
I ll try to post some photos of latest projects.

CQ WPX CONTEST SX9C

This year we had again the luck once again like last year on CQ WW to work from good friend SV9FBG shack , which become our contest station. On now on we will use SX9C as contest call of SV9 dx team. With 4620 contacts, 1424 wpx's and with score 11.495.000 we made the biggest score in SV,SV5,SV9 ever in our category.
Also big scores from our friends in North Greece J42T and J43TR from Patra congratulation!!!. This year vy good presence in biggest contests from the Greek ham community!

Latest news

Due to a lot of QRL and limited free time at shack, i prefer to work on Radio that to write on the blog HI!!!
So in Ham radio activity we had the participation on CQ WW SSB from good friend new builded shack in Ierapetra south Crete SV9FBG.We hope on now on to be active as team from there on major contest.
During LZ dx and Cq ww CW contest i ve been active on spare time and i had great time!!!!

Now on shack equipment ,there are arrived a k2-100 and the little BIG radio KX3.
Both are great radios!. During summer time i ve been active as /P station from South Crete and fro EU-187 Dia island with the KX 3 10w with both military and home made vertical antennas with good results.

Αγαπητοί συνάδελφοι, το γνωστό παρεάκι με μερικές απουσίες εφέτος ακούστηκε στου αιθέρες!!!
Για άλλη μια χρονιά ο καλός φίλος Φιλιπονικολάκης LZ3FN μας έκανε την τιμή και συμμετείχε στον διαγωνισμό. Ο τελευταίος μάλιστα κατέλαβε την νήσο Ντία και μετά από παρέμβαση ... επανήλθε ξανά στα Ελληνικά χέρια....
Αν άραγε ήταν αγγλική ,γερμανική η κάποια άλλη σημαία θα έλεγε κανένας τίποτε; Ελλάς στο μεγαλείο σου...
Θα επανέλθω επί του θέματος προσεχώς ...

Low Band RX in Metropolitan areas

As many of you know that I am living in city of Heraklion, in the same situation with more of you.
Living in big cities has all plus of the day living but its not amateur friendly, especially on low bands.
For me its normal to have 59+10dbs on 160m and 5-8 5-9 on 80 meters band. Crete is extremely mountainous so the properties here even in small villages aren't big enough for beverages antennas.The second solution coming with EWE' or K9AY antennas. The problems is that both and other similar antennas need space and good earth ground, which is hard to find on cities roof when used also by XYL's for laundry.
So after thinking, searching, asking, what remains? Active loop of course!!
I had the luck to took a gift from both good friends SV9COL and SV9OFS a wellbrook ALA 1530 antenna. Initially installed on direction east west without a rotator, but was hard to make some secure conclusions about its performance. Next step was to find a small rotator to check it better and like that done.
After 2 weeks the rotator broke and I was very angry. During this 2 weeks time I cant say that I was satisfied, the noise went down but cant dig the weak signals. The configuration was 2m wood pole and 45m rg 58 to shack.
Next thing was to search similar solution but with better performance, probably some band tuned Loops and LNA. In the meantime LZ2WO Valio, suggested to me by Hristo LZ3FN as well known low band DXer and homebrowing. He suggested to me to check for Alford loop and it's origin K6STI. After starting to plan a new RX antenna found a new Bulgarian (active antenna system ) made preamplifier with very good characteristics, plus the feed line which is with ftp cable and not with coaxial with all plus witch that means.The difference is that the combination of two loops antennas plus dipole or monopole and remote change the direction of loop S-N E-W by clicking a switch or both antennas as well. The all project is under hard testing and working with 2 x aluminum 1m loops with different thickness. The only sure is that this hardware configuration working better than the wellbrook antenna. Stay tune.

Triathlon and triathlon girls!!!

I am very happy those days for several reasons, the two more significant by date are:

The first triathlon dx contest past and left only sweet taste!!!! Big participation from both DX and SV stations. I really enjoy it, we thank you all for your support!!!

Now the best part of all! Monday after the contest my wife bring to this world the triathlon girls (thank to my doctor and girls for waiting finishing contest) !!! My two daughters in phase with ... boomingggg signal!!!!!

Short activation of Dia isl. IOTA EU-187

Yesterday i had the opportunity to work from Dia island IOTA EU-187 with an inverted L and the Ft-450D
i work on 12/15/17m as sv9djo/p and Nick sv9ank/p on 20m.Very strong signals around the globe and except Europeans some PY's and one VK station. This trip was mainly for site preview for next IOTA contest 2013.

1Η ΡΑΔΙΟΕΡΑΣΙΤΕΧΝΙΚΗ ΣΥΝΑΝΤΗΣΗ ΚΡΗΤΗΣ

Κλείδωσε και επίσημα η πρώτη ραδιοερασιτεχνική συνάντηση για το τελευταίο Σ/Κ 29-30 Σεπτεμβρίου στο Ηράκλειο και συγκεκριμένα στην πύλη Αγ. Γεωργίου .Η πύλη του Αγίου Γεωργίου βρίσκεται στο νοτιο-ανατολικό τμήμα της Πλατείας Ελευθερίας, επίσης έχει διαμορφωθεί δημοτικό πάρκινγκ παράλληλα με την Λεωφόρο Ικάρου 300μ απο το ΚΤΕΛ και την είσοδο του λιμανιού.
Συντεταγμένες και περισσότερες πληροφορίες θα αναρτηθούν στο site της ένωσης www.rasc.gr.

¨Άλλο ένα ΙΟΤΑ έφτασε στο τέλος του, πιθανότατα το πιο επιτυχημένο μέχρι τώρα για το Κρητικό DX-Team. Για άλλη μια χρονιά καταφέραμε να ξεπεράσουμε τις οποίες δυσκολίες και να αντιπροσωπεύσουμε επάξια θέλω να πιστεύω την Κρήτη και φυσικά την πατρίδα μας που βάλετε συνεχώς και απο παντού. Οι κόποι μας και ανταμείφθηκαν με τον καλύτερο τρόπο ένα πολύ καλό σκορ και μια πολύ καλή παρέα σε ένα καταπληκτικό μέρος τι άλλο μπορεί να περιμένει κανείς!!
Στο τεχνικό κομμάτι της dxpedition πολύτιμη η βοήθεια του καλού μου φίλου Hristo LZ3FN που βοήθησε εξαιρετικά στο κομμάτι CW. Απο πλευράς εξοπλισμού εφέτος είχαμε απο 2 two elements Ultrabeam , κάθετες για τα 40/80 , FT-2000 ,K3 και Acom 1010 για τα pileups!

J49A 2012 IOTA CONTEST

Φέτος υπήρχαν μερικές επιλογές για τον διαγωνισμό του καλοκαιριού με επικρατέστερες την Γαύδο και την Κρήτη... Η Γαύδος ήταν πρώτη επιλογή μετά από την πιο επιτυχημένη IOTA dxpedition του SV9 DX team αλλά δυστυχώς ακόμα και σήμερα δεν υπάρχει κανονική σύνδεση με το νησί ούτε ferry boat για να μεταφέρουμε τον εξοπλισμό μας. Έτσι αποφασίσαμε να παραμείνουμε Κρήτη και να βρούμε ένα σημείο δίπλα στην θάλασσα και με καλές προοπτικές !! Τελικά βρήκαμε στα πόδια μας την παραλία στα Φαλάσαρνα στο ξενοδοχείο του συναδέλφου SV9KNE. Πέρα απο την βασική ομάδα του Dx team που δυστυχώς δεν θα έχουμε το καλό μας φίλο Agris YL2VW που επέστρεψε στην πατρίδα του o οποίος τα τελευταία 2 χρόνια ήταν το Cw machine του team!!! Την θέση του μιας που ο Μιχάλης sv5byr δεν θα μα κάνει παρεούλα εφέτος θα πάρει ο πολύ καλός φίλος Hristo LZ3FN.

This year the SV9 DXteam is coming back to roots! After successful J45K from Kasos isl EU-001 this year we decide to run IOTA contest from Creta Isl on west side at Falaserna Beach. This year we miss our good "filo" Agris YL2VW which went back to home and we hope next year on to joining us again.
We welcome my good friend Hristo LZ3FN who joining us on CW.
From technical aspects this year we ll have a second ultrabeam 2 elements 20-6m and two Acom 1010.
For low bands inv L and verticals. TRX K3 and TS-590 or Yaesu FT-2000.
One station on 6m and maybe on 4m

Greek Contest -Triathlo Contest

Triathlon DX Contest announcement

It all started in August of 2011. That was about when it occurred to Mike, SV5BYR that a big Greek Contest was missing from international Ham Radio Contest Calendar. By the end of September this idea became mature and so the "Triathlon" was born! A triathlon is a multi- sport event involving the completion of three continuous and sequential endurance events. And as you have already guessed, it is a Greek word. We had to change a bit the name to Triathlon Dx Contest to match our activity. Actually, trying here to simulate the original Triathlon athletic event, we involved three major ham radio modes, SSB, CW, RTTY. It will be a 24 hour non-stop event divided in three sections, each one devoted to a different mode. There are some tentative rules of the contest that you can take a look. It will take place every Saturday, the 1st full weekend of February, debuting on 02-02-2013.

After all, what makes this particular contest unique is the special gift for the winner! (take a look to the prize page)

In this point we have to mention all the Greek amateurs who are working to make this event alive: SV1DPI, SV1NK, SV2AGW, SV2DCD, SV5BYR, SV7JAR, SV8CS, SV8RX, SV9GPV, SV9DJO…

There is still a lot of work to be done and more details to be announced. Stay tuned!

ΑΝΑΚΟΙΝΩΣΗ - ΚΑΝΟΝΙΣΜΟΙ

Είμαστε στην ευχάριστη θέση να ανακοινώσουμε τη δημιουργία ενός νέου Ελληνικού contest: το Triathlon DX Contest.

Όλα άρχισαν τον Αύγουστο του 2011, όταν ο Μιχάλης SV5BYR, συνέλαβε την ιδέα. Το όραμα άρχισε να παίρνει σάρκα και οστά τον Δεκέμβριο του 2011, όταν μια παρέα Ελλήνων ραδιοερασιτεχνών έγιναν κοινωνοί αυτής της ιδέας και άρχισαν να συζητούν για τις λεπτομέρειες του διαγωνισμού.

Σήμερα ανακοινώνουμε επίσημα τον διαγωνισμό, καλώντας, αφενός τους προγραμματιστές να προσαρμόσουν τα προγράμματά τους αφετέρου όλους εσάς να τον αγκαλιάσετε και να βοηθήσετε στην επιτυχή διεξαγωγή του.

Ο διαγωνισμός θα διεξάγεται το πρώτο Σάββατο του Φεβρουαρίου κάθε τρέχοντος έτους, θα έχει διάρκεια 24 ώρες και θα αναπαριστά πιστά το αγώνισμα Τρίαθλον. Το αγώνισμα Τρίαθλον αποτελείται από 3 διαφορετικά αθλήματα: Κολύμβηση, Ποδηλασία, Τρέξιμο. Τα αθλήματα γίνονται σε διαδοχική σειρά δίχως διακοπή και νικητής είναι αυτός που συγκεντρώνει την υψηλότερη βαθμολογία και στα τρία. Έτσι θα είναι και ο διαγωνισμός μας, με τη διαφορά ότι τα τρία αγωνίσματα θα είναι: RTTY, SSB και CW σε διαδοχική σειρά φυσικά. Αυτή είναι και η μεγάλη διαφορά αυτού του διαγωνισμού, αφού τα τρία modes ακολουθούν το ένα το άλλο και δεν εναλλάσσονται. Ως αποτέλεσμα αυτού, να μην μπορεί κάποιος να κερδίσει το διαγωνισμό παρά μόνο αν συμμετάσχει και στα τρία modes. Ο πρώτος διαγωνισμός θα γίνει το Σάββατο 2 Φεβρουαρίου 2013. Από την άλλη κι αφού μιλάμε για Ελληνικό contest, δίνεται ιδιαίτερη βαρύτητα στην επικοινωνία με Ελληνικούς σταθμούς

Σε όλα τα παραπάνω προσθέστε το εξαιρετικό δώρο για το νικητή, που θα είναι 10ήμερη φιλοξενία για 2 άτομα σε ξενοδοχείο της Ελλάδας!!!

Μάλλον θα είναι το πρώτο contest παγκοσμίως που το έτερον ήμισυ, θα μας παροτρύνει για μεγαλύτερη συμμετοχή αντί να γκρινιάζει όπως συνήθως…
